What makes us different?    A Ryde Aged Care Facility

There are many special things about Clermont and here are just a few of the things we do that make us different from other aged care facilities:

Our association with APAC.

The Acute/Post Acute Care NSW (APAC) chose Clermont Aged Care as the first facility in the Ryde area to be a participating member of the Northern Sydney Acute/Post Acute Care Team.  This is a service that enables patients from both the community and Aged Care Facilities to be treated at home thus avoiding a sometimes lengthy stay in hospital.  This service has been well received by families as it means the residents are able to stay in familiar surroundings while receiving I.V. Antibiotics. Only those facilities that have the necessary expertise in this type of care and nursing are chosen and Clermont is proud of the fact that in our area, we were the first to be approached for this very important initiative

Greenwich Hospital Partnership.

In 2008 Clermont signed a partnership agreement with Greenwich Hospital for the provision of Palliative Care beds for terminal patients.  Under this agreement 6 Registered Nurses from Clermont were seconded to Greenwich Hospital for 2 weeks each for up-skilling in Palliative Care Provision.  This education was funded under the State Health's PEPA Scheme.  Since that time the Clinical Nurse Consultant's and Doctors from Greenwich have worked closely with staff and GP's at Clermont in an effort to provide optimum care for terminally ill residents.

Partnership with ACU for the training of Registered Nurses.

Clermont has been providing Clinical Facilitation for Nursing Students from Australian Catholic University since March 2007.  This means that groups of students from 1st Year to 3rd Year attend Clermont throughout the year for placements of between 3 & 4 weeks where they gain valuable knowledge and experience in Aged Care, Mental Health and Palliative Care under the supervision of Registered Nurses and the DON & DDON. This practical and "hands on" training provides a "live" workshop for the Registered Nurses working towards their degrees.

Clermont Annual Pantomime.

Since 2006 Clermont staff have written, produced and performed a Christmas Panto for residents.  This has become a most popular event and staff have delighted residents with a new insight into such favourites as Cinderella, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood and The Wizard of Oz, as well as a Las Vegas style variety show.  A DVD is produced each year so that a copy can be given to each staff member participating and other copies can be sold so that funds raised can be used in our Therapy and Lifestyle programs. In 2011 we received an award for this innovative activity at the Aged Care Australia Congress held on the Gold Coast.

Participation in the PerCen Dementia Care Project.

In May 2009 Clermont became part of the PerCen Dementia Care Project.  This study ran over 18 months and during this time 4 staff (1 R.N., 2 AIN's and 1 Activity Officer) attended a full week's training at University of Technology Sydney.   The aim of the study was to train staff to look at a broader range of interventions when dealing with residents with behavioural issues.  Being part of the study  has shown great benefits at Clermont especially when dealing with challenging behaviours that are a result of age related issues exhibited by some residents

The Ant & Becks Show

Mix 106.5 visited Clermont on 17/2/11 for a stand-up comedy routine by the Ant & Becks Show.  The residents had a great time and audience participation was good.  The team from Mix provided a wonderful afternoon tea for residents and staff and spent time chatting with the residents when the show was finished. Clermont has a long and positive association with the media as also seen on the link on our home page to the Today Tonight piece ran on Channel 7 some years ago.
